The Bumdra to Tiger’s Nest Trek is a spectacular Himalayan adventure that combines breathtaking mountain scenery, peaceful forest trails, alpine landscapes, and Bhutan’s rich spiritual heritage. Beginning at Sang Choekhor Buddhist College, the trek climbs gradually through pine and rhododendron forests, offering beautiful views across the Paro and surrounding valleys.
The trail leads towards the high-altitude Bumdra campsite, situated at around 3,800 meters. Along the way, trekkers pass through peaceful meadows, prayer-flag-lined trails, and sacred sites, creating a wonderful blend of nature and spirituality. From Bumdra, an optional hike to a nearby summit provides panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges and surrounding valleys.
The following day, descend through ancient forests towards Zangto Pelri, enjoying spectacular views of the legendary Taktsang Monastery, or Tiger’s Nest, dramatically perched on a cliff face. Continue towards the monastery and explore this sacred site, traditionally associated with Guru Padmasambhava and the introduction of Buddhism to Bhutan.
After visiting Taktsang, descend through the forest to the Paro Valley, where your vehicle awaits. This trek offers a rewarding combination of adventure, nature, culture, and spirituality, making it an ideal experience for those looking to explore Bhutan beyond the usual sightseeing routes.

Arrival in Paro
Paro
Arrive at Paro International Airport. Welcome by your guide and transfer to hotel. Relax and acclimatize to the altitude (2,250m). Evening stroll through Paro town.
Sang Chokhor(2,800 m) - Bumdra (3,800 m)

Distance: Approx. 10–12 km Ascent: Approx. 1,000 m Duration: 4–5 hrs to camp (+2–3 hrs optional peak hike) Overnight: Tented campsite at Bumdra Difficulty: Moderate After breakfast, drive to Sang Choekhor Buddhist College (2,800 m), where the trek begins. The trail gradually climbs through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, following forested ridges with panoramic views of the Paro and Do Chhu valleys. Continue towards Chhoe Tse Lhakhang, then trek through peaceful meadows and ancient forest, with prayer flags adding a spiritual touch to the landscape. The trail eventually leads to Bumdra Monastery, known for its sacred caves and legends of countless dakini footprints. Settle into your tented campsite at around 3,800 m. If weather and energy permit, take an optional hike to a nearby viewpoint at around 4,000 m for breathtaking Himalayan panoramas.

Distance: Approx. 12–14 km Descent: Approx. 1,200 m Duration: 5–7 hrs Overnight: Hotel in Paro Difficulty: Moderate Wake up to spectacular views of the Himalayan peaks before beginning the descent from Bumdra. The trail winds through ancient pine and rhododendron forests, following a scenic zigzag route down the mountainside. Continue towards Zangto Pelri, meaning “Heaven on Earth,” where you can enjoy dramatic views of Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) perched high on the opposite cliff. From here, continue towards the iconic Taktsang Monastery, one of Bhutan’s most sacred and spectacular landmarks. Take time to explore the monastery and soak in the spiritual atmosphere before descending through the forest to the valley floor. Your vehicle will be waiting at the roadhead for the transfer back to your hotel in Paro, marking the end of this rewarding Himalayan trek.
Paro - Thimphu

After breakfast, drive from Paro to Thimphu through scenic mountain roads and traditional villages. Stop at Chuzom, the confluence of the Paro and Thimphu rivers, before continuing to Simtokha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s oldest fortresses. Upon arrival in Thimphu, visit the Buddha Dordenma Statue for panoramic views of the valley, followed by a leisurely exploration of Thimphu town. In the evening, enjoy some free time to relax or explore the local surroundings before overnight in Thimphu.
